1. Discuss P.I.E.S with each other online and at the end of the discussion , each person must understand what Kagan’s P.I.E.S means.
2. Next , apply your knowledge and understanding of P.I.E.S to develop by group a descriptive essay of not more than 300 words (5 paragraphs) , describing vividly the sight , touch , taste , smell , sounds of Marang Beach.

P – POSITIVE INTERDEPENDENCE :
• A cooperative learning
• Each team members’ effort are required
• Because each member have unique ideas and thoughts that have been influenced by their different surroundings, roles, and responsibilities
I – INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTABILITY
• Ensures all group members take responsibilities for their share work
E – EQUAL PARTICIPATION
• All students are given an opportunity to participate and are expected to contribute during their turn.
• Division of labor makes each student responsible for part of the task and equalizes participation because every member has a task.
S – SIMULTANEOUS INTERACTION
• Encourages all voices, dramatically increasing language production for students.

P.I.E.S

P.I.E.S  is a cooperative learning principle introduced by Spencer Kagan. There are four basic principles symbolized by the acronym PIES that are Positive Interdependence , Individual accountability , Equal participation and Simultaneous interaction.

Positive Interdependence occurs when the members of a group working together and the success depends on the participation of all the members. It means that students need each other to succeed , and a gain for one student is a gain for others.

Individual Accoutability means that a student performs on his or her own and the performance or the product of the performance must be seen by someone else. The individual performance is also required. It means that all students are actively involved and responsible for their own learning.

Equal Participation means that all students receive the same chances and incentives to be involved in the class. all students must be given an opportunity to participate and are expected to contribute during their turn. The students are encouraged to contribute.

Simultaneous interaction means that all students are actively engaged at the same time during class. It means that the students should keep interacting with each others about the topic that are being discussed.

MARANG BEACH  (Descriptive Essay)

Marang Beach, a famous place to visit in Terengganu to soothe your mind and soul. With gritty sand, smooth shells, and blue crystal clear water, the beach is widely acknowledged as an ideal place for swimming, sunbathing, enjoying a picnic with the whole family, or camping here while witnessing the spectacular daily sunrise.  

People who come to Marang beach will be amazed by its natural beauty. The pine trees grown along the beach provide shades for the families and their children to spend their relaxing hours there. The waves seem waving to the visitors and creating natural pattern along its smooth white sandy beach.  (ANIS)

As you stroll along the beach , you could feel the soft smooth sand beneath your feet. The grains are so fine that it could not possibly be felt by hands. The foamy mist from the rampant ocean spray your face lightly as though it is the touch of a feather.   (NAGATIVIYA)

The smell of the salty sea would tingle your nose of the fresh air on the beach. While being there , the aroma of the food is enough to make those who smell it drooling and to eat it right away. (AIMA)

You could enjoy having the very fresh seafood dishes while spending time with your loved ones on the beach. If you swim in the water , you could taste the salt on your lips from the water.  (ELISHA)

You could hear the rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the shore , represses all the worries.  The birds would be singing into the ears with high spirits , roaming around the sky trying to congratulate their freedom. People would begin to come out of their homes and enjoy the extraordinary scenes on the beach. Eventually , the beach becomes a room filled with laughter. (DIANA)
